Notion was founded in 2016 by Ivan Zhao and Simon Last. Their idea was to create an all-in-one workspace for efficient collaboration.

Like Airtable and many other No-Code tools, there's a lot you can do with Notion.

However, it takes some time to implement, and there are no specialized use cases.

If we were to take a telling comparison, you can do your CRM in Notion. However, no serious Sales & Marketing team will want to do it.

To be perfectly honest, it was various bottlenecks and frustrations linked to our use of Notion that led us to develop Rolebase.

Reason #1

Knowledge Capture

With Notion, you have to spend time entering knowledge.

Rolebase, on the other hand, allows you to capture knowledge as and when you make decisions and progress on subjects and meetings.

Our aim is to save you time and be more exhaustive in the storage of your internal knowledge.

Reason #2

A much more powerful search

Notion's search doesn't do the job.

It's extremely complex to find the right items, which leads to an infinite number of favorites.

Notion will never do better than Rolebase due to architectural choices.

Example of a Rolebase search.

Reason #3

Confidentiality

On Notion, everyone can have access to everything.

In addition, when sharing access with guests, it's not uncommon to give access to all resources, not just the page in question.

Rolebase lets you select items that can only be accessed by specific members or roles.

Reason #4

Specialization

If we want to engage teams in the use of a tool to produce Knowledge and alignment, use must be simple and guided. Use must be simple and guided.

Notion's flat architecture does not allow for the graphical representation of Rolebase.

Moreover, any system created on Notion can be broken by poor individual handling.

Beyond these elements, collaboration with our customers enables us to develop best practices from which you can benefit.

A list of tasks.

Reason #5

The cost

If you want a (not beautiful) system that works with Notion, you have to invest time in it.

You either have to go through a freelancer, dedicate a position to it or take bandwidth from a co-founder/director.

Calculate that time lost vs. going through Rolebase 🙂
